8:00 am – 8:15 am Welcome and Introduction to the Workshop “Introduction to Anodizing”
8:15 am – 8:30 am Short introduction of Participants
8:30 am – 9:00 am Aluminum and its alloys: Getting a basic idea of Aluminum and its alloys to get the best anodizing results.
9:00 am – 9:45 am History of Anodizing: What is anodizing and why do we anodize aluminum? The various anodizing processes, including sulfuric anodizing process, which is the one we will concentrate on in the workshop. This will give you a fundamental understanding of what is happening during the anodizing process.
9:45 am – 10:00 am Break
10:00 am – 10:45 am Corrosion of Aluminum: This section provides a short introduction to corrosion of aluminum and talks about the three most important types, providing you with the understanding of the corrosion issues of aluminum.
10:45 am – 11:15 am Handling and Racking: This is the first step in the anodizing process, different possibilities will be shown and we will talk about the advantages and disadvantages as well as troubleshooting.
11:15 am – 12:30 pm Pretreatment: In this presentation, you will learn the fundamentals in pretreatment, such as cleaning, etching, deoxidizing and bright dip. We will talk about what you do in your own line. Why we pretreated and what happens, the chemicals and what can go wrong (troubleshooting).
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm Lunch
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm Anodizing in Sulfuric Acid: Now you know what happens with the aluminum surface before anodizing, so this is the time for an in depth presentation about anodizing. Here you will learn all about what´s going on in the process, the influence of the various process parameters, the chemicals, temperature and time. Topics will also include the importance of filtering, analysis of the anodizing bath, as well as testing and troubleshooting.
3:30 pm – 3:45 pm Break
